Pre-book a seat so a full lounge can't turn you away
The three Canadian cards that include Priority Pass visits also unlock pre-book access at the busiest Canadian lounges.
Most Canadian airport lounges let you in 3 hours before departure. The standard window applies at Aspire, Centurion, Delta Sky Club, Cathay Pacific, Air Canada Maple Leaf Lounges and the Air Canada Signature Suite. Plaza Premium lounges don't enforce a formal pre-departure window — enter any time space permits, but capacity-limit refusals happen first to Priority Pass members during busy banks. Priority Pass itself has no fixed window; your card's digital pass works from the moment you clear security. The two exceptions worth knowing: Plaza Premium at Vancouver (24-hour) admits any time; the Air France – KLM Lounge at Montreal reserves 3:30–6:30 p.m. daily for AF/KL Business and SkyTeam Elite Plus only.

The standard: 3 hours before departure
Across most Canadian lounges — including Air Canada's own Maple Leaf Lounges and the Signature Suite — you can enter up to 3 hours before your scheduled departure. The window is enforced by the lounge agent scanning your boarding pass; a 4-hour-ahead attempt will typically be refused with a request to come back later.
| Lounge type | Entry window | Enforced? |
|---|---|---|
| Air Canada Maple Leaf Lounge | 3 hours before departure | Yes, scanned at door |
| Air Canada Signature Suite (YYZ) | 3 hours before departure (Signature Class ticket) | Yes |
| Aspire Lounges (YYC, YUL, YOW, YHZ, YTZ) | 3 hours before departure | Yes |
| Centurion Lounges (US — Amex Platinum) | 3 hours before departure | Yes |
| Delta Sky Club (US) | 3 hours before departure OR during a layover | Yes |
| Cathay Pacific Lounge YVR | Aligned with Cathay departure times (not sold outside window) | Yes |
| Air France – KLM Lounge YUL | Flight-time aligned; 3:30–6:30 p.m. reserved for AF/KL customers only | Strict |
| Plaza Premium (standard) | No formal window — enter any time; capacity-based | No window, but capacity enforced |
| Plaza Premium YVR International (24-hour) | Any time, 24/7 | None — only Canadian 24-hour lounge |
| National Bank Lounge YUL | No fixed window; 2-hour stay limit (3 hours for Private Banking 1859) | Stay limit enforced, not entry window |
| SkyTeam Lounge YVR | Aligned with international departure times (3-hour standard) | Yes |
Plaza Premium: no formal window, but capacity matters
Plaza Premium is the exception to the "3-hour window" rule. Officially the operator does not enforce a pre-departure window — you can enter 5 hours before your flight if space allows. In practice, during busy evening international banks at YYZ T3 (3:00–9:00 p.m.) or afternoon Asian departures at YVR Pier D, Plaza Premium is at capacity and Priority Pass members are the first turned away.
A reserved seat via Priority Pass pre-book (available at the T3 Landmark YYZ, Aspire American Express YUL, Aspire YOW, Aspire YTZ, and the National Bank YUL temp lounge) is one a full lounge cannot refuse. For evening international departures, pre-booking is worth the small fee.
Priority Pass: no window, but still subject to capacity
Priority Pass itself does not impose a pre-departure window — your digital Priority Pass card in the app works from the moment you clear security. Lounge-side rules may still apply (Aspire's 3-hour window) but the Priority Pass program itself is open.
What Priority Pass DOES enforce is a stay limit — typically 3 hours per visit — and the lounge reserves the right to refuse entry when at capacity.
The Air France – KLM Lounge YUL exception
The AF-KLM Lounge at Montreal operates a split-eligibility model. Outside the 3:30 p.m. – 6:30 p.m. daily window, Priority Pass is accepted with the standard 3-hour stay limit. Inside that window, the lounge is reserved for Air France and KLM Business Class and SkyTeam Elite Plus customers only. If you have Priority Pass and your YUL flight departs between 3:30 p.m. and 6:30 p.m., head to the Aspire International Lounge next door (Gates 52–53) instead. Full detail in our AF-KLM Lounge Montreal YUL access guide.
The 24-hour Plaza Premium at YVR
The Plaza Premium International Lounge at Vancouver (Pier D) is the only Canadian airport lounge open 24 hours a day, every day. For overnight transpacific arrivals waiting for a morning onward flight, this is the only functional overnight lounge option in the country. Priority Pass members get a 2-hour stay limit — but you can re-enter later if space permits.
Combined with the shower suites and dimmed quiet zones, Plaza Premium YVR 24-hour is the de facto Canadian "sleep lounge" alternative on Priority Pass. See our Canadian Airport Lounges with Sleep Pods guide for the full rest-focused analysis.
How long can you stay inside?
Entry window and stay limit are two different things. Here's what each lounge type enforces once you're inside:
- Priority Pass: 3-hour stay limit at most Canadian lounges; 2 hours at Plaza Premium Vancouver Pier D and Pier E.
- DragonPass (Visa Airport Companion / Mastercard Travel Pass): matches Priority Pass stay limits per lounge.
- Amex Platinum direct entry: typically 3-hour stay; longer than Priority Pass at some Plaza Premium locations.
- National Bank Lounge YUL: 2 hours (3 hours for Private Banking 1859 clients) during the temporary space period (October 2026 – June 2028).
- Air Canada Maple Leaf Lounge (ticket or status): no fixed limit — stay until your flight boards.
- Air Canada Signature Suite: 3-hour pre-departure window; stay until board.
- Walk-in paid entry: explicit duration tied to the fare — 2 or 3 hours.
Frequently Asked Questions
How early can I enter an airport lounge in Canada?
Most Canadian airport lounges — including Air Canada Maple Leaf Lounges, Aspire lounges, the Air Canada Signature Suite, Cathay Pacific and SkyTeam — admit you 3 hours before your departure. Plaza Premium lounges have no formal window and admit any time space permits. Priority Pass has no fixed window; your card works from the moment you clear security. The National Bank Lounge at YUL and the 24-hour Plaza Premium at YVR Pier D have no entry window at all.
Can I enter the Air Canada Maple Leaf Lounge more than 3 hours before my flight?
No. Air Canada's Maple Leaf Lounge entry policy is a 3-hour pre-departure window, enforced by boarding pass scan at the door. A 4-hour-ahead attempt is typically refused with a request to come back closer to your departure. The same rule applies to the Air Canada Signature Suite at Toronto Pearson Terminal 1.
Does Priority Pass have a time window?
No. Priority Pass does not impose a pre-departure window — your digital Priority Pass card in the app works from the moment you clear security. However, the specific lounge may apply its own window: Aspire lounges enforce 3 hours, Plaza Premium does not. Full comparison in our Priority Pass lounges in Canada guide.
